SATELLITE OEM
B R A I D E D T E T H E R
• Needs a small diameter strength member with specific tensile and
geometric requirements that current product was not achieving
• Requires a solution that is also black and UV resistant, as existing
aramid yarns are not available in color (coating is not acceptable
for the application due to off-gassing complications)
• Withstands extreme, prolonged thermal cycling
• Acts as a critical component for safe re-entry into earth’s
atmosphere at the end of the satellite’s life cycle

• Strength and stiffness comparable to incumbent aluminum
• Impact resistance at cold temperatures
• Fatigue resistance
• Extended mechanical performance, even with exposure to
water (melted snow)
• Good cosmetic finish with UV resistance
• Tailored a formulation that maintained
performance despite routine moisture exposure
and met customer aesthetic standards to
eliminate the need for decoration
• Guided metal-to-composite conversion and
design to redirect weld lines to non-critical
structural areas, allowing complex geometric
cutouts without post-operation requirements
• Enabled cost reduction through assembly step

DEMAND TRENDS
25
• Military spending and near-term demand for higher performing personal protection
products (like Dyneema®) expected to increase
o European NATO members annual defense spend expected to increase by up to 20%(1)
o Japan aiming to almost double defense spending over the next 5 years(2)
o Accelerated launch of next generation technology in North America
• Policy-driven demand for sustainable energy; growth in floating offshore wind
farms which require advanced, durable technology
o Offshore wind expected to grow at a CAGR of 32% with the level of annual installations
quadrupling over the next five years(3)
• Continued investment in aquaculture as a sustainable food source(4)
• Strong demand in outdoor high performance space across niche consumer
applications aligns with 10% growth assumption for Avient’s Composites portfolio
