Although these process aids do not directly benefit preform manufacturers, who produce the initial plastic preforms, the advantages are realized at the bottle blower stage, where the preforms are heated and blown into their final bottle shapes.

Examples include:
• Unique technologies that improve the recyclability of products and enable recycled content
to be incorporated, thus advancing a more circular economy
• Light-weighting solutions that replace heavier traditional materials like metal, glass and
wood, which can improve fuel efficiency in all modes of transportation and reduce carbon
footprint
• Sustainable infrastructure solutions that increase energy efficiency, renewable energy,
natural resource conservation and fiber optic / 5G network accessibility

Tooling Costs
In nearly every case, molds needed for LSR fabrication require more precision
and tooling expertise than those used to manufacture TPE parts.
A 2012 article in Plastics Technology1 notes silicone rubber molds need tighter
tolerances to prevent flash.
On the other hand, TPEs are most commonly processed using in-line, single-
screw injection equipment that has been routinely used in the plastics industry
for decades.
