This paper
discusses the reasons fogging occurs, tools to
minimize it, and also a new development that can
both limit fogging and support development of
easy-to-open packaging.
As a result of this testing, new anti-fog additives
were developed and marketed.
There were several key challenges that had to
be met in the development of this specialty
formulation.

THE CHALLENGE
A global business equipment manufacturer decided to
develop a premium line of computer mouse products
that offered improved ergonomics and soft-touch
qualities.
Key to the product development effort was a soft-touch
mouse grip that would give users a smooth feel, easy
handling, and greater physical comfort.
The
Avient team worked carefully to develop a compound
that could utilize existing tooling to avoid additional
tooling costs.

Guided by their initiative to develop capabilities
that provide additional protection for soldiers while
reducing time and logistic requirements,1 the U.S.
Army Corps Engineers’ Engineer Research and
Development Center (ERDC) Survivability Engineering
Branch enlisted the expertise of Edwards Design and
Fabrication, an Alabama-based equipment fabricator for
commercial and government research and development
organizations.
Avient collaborated with Edwards to develop ballistic-
resistant panels that were not only compatible with the
required hardware but also met color requirements for
better visual cover once deployed.

WHY AVIENT?
https://www.avient.com/idea/making-plastic-parts-more-sustainable
Both bio-based and recycled materials are beneficial in developing more sustainable products for eco-conscious consumers – a growing segment of buyers, as 78% of consumers value a sustainable lifestyle (NielsenIQ, 2023).
Therefore, it takes more time and resources to develop economies of scale.

Involving ColorWorks at the earliest stage
of product development can simplify the
development process, shorten time-to-market,
control costs and feasibility, and manage
global color consistency.
Once the framework is established, the
development process kicks into high gear,
utilizing a comprehensive toolbox of cutting-edge
technologies:
• Mood boards for conceptualization
• Extensive color libraries, both physical
and digital
• Rapid prototyping and sampling
• Photorealistic 3D rendering
• Accurate cost and feasibility
assessment tools
This iterative process allows for quick turnarounds
and efficient approvals, ensuring that the final
product meets all expectations.
This collaborative design
approach has been shown to reduce development
times by 50% or more and generate substantial total
cost savings.
