These expanded offerings add medical-grade LDPE, nylon, PEBA, PS and PVC to the globally available palette of specialty healthcare colorants, and are pre-certified to meet or exceed biocompatibility requirements for ISO 10993 and/or USP Class VI protocols. Developed as a more sustainable alternative for biopharmaceutical tubing, the initial Versaflex HC BIO BT218 grade is formulated with nearly 40% first-generation biomass content, resulting in a lower carbon footprint than traditional alternatives.   In contrast, the bio-derived grade offers greenhouse gas emissions at 2.35 kg CO2e / kg product, a nearly 25 percent lower cradle-to-gate product carbon footprint (PCF) than Avient’s standard Versaflex HC BT218 grade. Certified for USP Class VI and ISO 10993, the new Versaflex HC BIO BT218 grade is manufactured in the United States with global commercial availability.  

MEVOPUR medical-grade materials are produced according to ISO13485-2016 protocols and supported by testing to ISO 10993-1, USP, European Pharmacopeia and ICH Q3D guidelines. Using MEVOPUR medical grade materials can help manufacturers of medical devices and pharmaceutical packaging reduce the risk of regulatory non-compliance. Intended for use in polyolefins, styrenics, and copolymers, these medical-grade foaming agents are the first such additives to be produced under the MEVOPUR protocols.

These TPE grades, formulated for consumer applications, can be used in personal care products, lawn and garden tools, outdoor goods, office supplies, footwear, and houseware durables. These nylon formulations contain 100 percent PCR resin, and are available in both PA6 and PA66 grades with various levels of glass fiber and mineral reinforcements. Several grades in this portfolio perform on par with virgin PC in terms of tensile elongation, tensile strength, notched Izod impact, flexural modulus and flexural strength.

Available in two Shore A hardnesses, Versaflex HC grades can also be customized to achieve desired haptic qualities. After repeated exposure to antiseptics, the new TPE grades resist overmolding delamination, cracking and loss of resilience. Further, these grades are compatible with PolyOne’s OnColor™ HC Plus USP Class VI-compliant colorants, which resist fading from repeated antiseptic use. 

The first new grade can be overmolded onto a range of rigid polymer substrates to form internal seals or gaskets.
