Compact cars need to keep a lower price point, yet the auto industry’s exacting safety standards for interior materials – and the OEM’s own commitment to quality for discerning customers – meant the design team would be challenged to find a suitable material for interior surfaces.  After reviewing the requirements, the two teams worked to customize a color and additive concentrate using carbon fiber to produce the desired visual effect that would make the interior pillars and headliner look like they were covered in fabric.

Each of these properties satisfies key requirements for the application, which includes both aesthetic and performance criteria. A high melt flow rate for the solution reduces packing and cooling time requirements to improve overall molding cycle times.
