The sheath layer should have good insulation properties which are challenging to achieve with low coating thickness containing flame retardants.
This includes standards for flame retardant performance to IEC 60332-1, another key characteristic to consider.

ITSELF WITH NEW PRODUCTS FEATURING NON-HALOGENATED FLAME-
RETARDANT SEALS MOLDED FROM THERMOPLASTIC ELASTOMERS
Gaskets are intended to insulate the boxes for
electrical safety, and must be flame retardant to reduce the
chance of fire caused by sparks or electrical overload.
Avient GLS
thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) material specialists identified a
current TPE within the OnFlex™ S HF, non-halogenated, flame
retardant portfolio that could be slightly modified to meet the
application’s requirements.

ECCOH™ XL Cross-Linkable Solutions (8001)
Moisture-cured cross-linkable, low smoke and fume, non-halogen
(LSFOH) formulations for flame retardant wire and cable applications
ECCOH™ XL Cross-Linkable Solutions (ECCOH
XL 8001) are non-halogenated flame retardant
formulations for the manufacturing of
thermoset cable insulation.
Manufacturers of cable insulation who require
flame retardance in their products benefit from
ECCOH XL 8001.
Highly flame retardant—helps to prevent
a fire, or limit the damage if one starts
• Non-halogenated—in the case of a fire,
there are no acid gas emissions which can
damage equipment and buildings
• Low smoke—in the event of fire, people can
locate escape routes, and fire fighters can
quickly find the source of the fire
• Low toxicity—in the event of a fire, people
are not overcome by toxic fumes
• Low dripping—no flaming droplets which
can further propagate the fire or cause injury
• Low emission of corrosive gases when
burned—avoids potential damage to
electrical components and equipment, and
improves human safety

Cesa™ Fiber Additives
Flame Retardants for Synthetic Fibers and Nonwovens
Ignitability and flame spread, with or without an
additional radiant heat source, are a particular
concern for fibers used in indoor applications,
or indeed anywhere where human lives could be
endangered.
Our Cesa™ Fiber Additives portfolio
includes flame retardant solutions as additive
concentrates which are incorporated into the
polymer during the spin-dyeing process.
CHEMISTRY
Avient’s non-halogen flame retardant systems for
fibers can be applied to decrease the flammability
of polypropylene, while nitrogen and phosphorous
based chemistries are used to impart flame
retardant properties to polyester and polyamide
PA 6 and PA 6.6.
