Prevent the TPE from flashing over areas on the substrate. Provide a spring-loaded area if the inserted substrate is a metal or other non-compressible material. Mechanical interlocks are used in overmolding to improve attachment to the substrate in areas subject to high stress or abrasion.

Print clear gel on top of the areas to be foiled. This same print parameter can be used to create a very distressed look with a minor tweak—the person applying the foil at the end of the dryer just pats the gel area with a foil instead of burnishing it. Generally, a setting of 375°F (1900°C) at 40 pounds of pressure for 8-10 seconds is enough to change the surface area.
