As part of their search for a non-halogenated product, the design staff at Schneider-Electric met with Avient's GLS thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) material specialists. They then modified the material to offer enough heat resistance so it could be overmolded onto polypropylene, the underlying material that provides the gaskets’ rigidity.  The material also can be used in tools originally constructed for halogenated materials with no rework required.

Specifically, the material needed to handle constant weight loads and high vibration, and withstand corrosive chemicals. With our material science and design expertise, we assist our customers in navigating the material-change journey so that they can achieve greater efficiencies and performance.” Backed by these results, Avient formulated a pre-colored, long-fiber material to match Bettcher’s existing product palette.
